Where the shortgrass prairie drops into the Red River Valley, the 4R Ranch—with its magnificent vistas and rocky terrain—is perfectly suited for growing grapes. Patriarch W.C. Roper encouraged his family of sixth-generation Texans to share the beauty of this extraordinary place with others; and so it was love of this man and love of the land that inspired 4R Ranch Vineyards & Winery. Chinquapin oaks, white-tailed deer, the endangered black-capped vireo, and the occasional Rio Grande turkey inhabit this incredible property. Powered by sun, earth and wind, 4R Ranch Vineyards & Winery calls us all to slow our pace, enjoy the view, and sip a glass of wine in the magnificent Red River Valley.

Visit our Wind Shed Tasting Room to try these magnificent 4R wines.

Our signature blend of Sangiovese, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon is macerated and open-tank fermented to extract everything these beautiful varietals have to offer. The pretty, elegant nose, redolent of raspberries and blue fruit, surrounded by earth and spice give on to a round well balanced mouth brimming with red and blue fruits, mocha spice and relaxed tannins.

4R’s latest signature red vintage exemplifies the power of our land. Broodingly smoky in the nose, this full-bodied yet sensuous Cab is a delight to drink. At once powerful and elegant, this proves to be a contemplative glass of wine, illustrating the balance of strength and beauty found in the vineyards where it is grown.

In the style of Entre-Deux-Mers in Bordeaux, our Merlot is marked by soft, perfumed fruit in the nose, giving way to a velvety, plummy and almost meaty glass of wine. Delicious for sipping on long, lazy afternoons gazing at the horizon from the Wind Shed Tasting Room deck, this wine is equally at home in front of a crackling fire alongside grilled meats.

One of the new stars of the Texas wine world, we have macerated and fermented this classic Spanish varietal in both stainless steel and new wood alongside its French friend Malbec to provide balance between spicy black cherry fruit, leathery tannins and nuances of baked earth. Full bodied with a round expansive mouth feel accompanied by hints of white pepper and baking spice, this wine will linger in your thoughts.

NO. 4 2014 / BOTTLE: $32
This is what happens when you bring together four of the best regional varietals in the world and let them have a conversation. This unique blend of Sangiovese, Syrah, Malbec and Tempranillo resounds in the harmonious quartet of rich well developed fruit in concert with bold tannins and leathery spice.

Down home Texas Lenoir blended with the Rhône powerhouse Grenache play well together, creating a dark, rich wine yielding a captivating combination that teases the palate with full-bodied, fruit-forward flavor! This is a Texas-sized mouthful of wine that lends itself well to game and roasted meats, barbeque, and stinky cheeses.

Our homage to the great wines of Chateauneuf-du-Papes is a constantly changing blend of primarily Rhone varietals that satisfies the most discriminating of palates. Primary fermentation takes place over three weeks in open top fermenters to macerate all these luscious flavors properly. The choir sings of dark red, black and blue fruits, accented by white and green pepper, mocha earth and leather notes, ending with a finish that lasts about three days. Pair this with your favorite grilled meats, structured pasta or stinky cheeses.

Once again in honor of those wonderful wines of the Rhône Valley, this wine is sweetly patterned after one of the oldest blends from the region to delight your senses! This dessert blend of co-fermented Grenache and Syrah aged in both French and American wood yield a voluptuous and sexy wine, rich in blue fruits and nuances of toasted vanilla, wrapped in a kiss of wood, structured and elegant with black fruit, truffle and cocoa notes. It’s an easy drinker to while away the time.

As sixth-generation Texans, the Roper family is pleased to share this unique port-styled wine blended from multiple vintages of Texan-grown Touriga Nacional grapes. This tawny beauty warms the heart with round sweetness and a finish that lasts until long after sunset.

Lively on the tongue, our Texas High Plains Trebbiano is a perfect wine to sip all day. A pretty and flowered light-bodied wine that drinks side by side with some of the superb Sauvignon Blancs and fun-loving Soave!

A beautiful orange-gold hue from extended cryomaceration, the aromatics and mouthfeel of this wine are off the charts! Extremely well integrated fruit, minerality and high-toned acid really deliver in this rich and powerful Old World example of what Viognier has to offer.

Softly fragrant and serenely aromatic in the nose, our 2016 Viognier yields beautiful overtones of peach at first sip. Round and relaxed in the mouth, the medium-bodied weight is balanced by high-toned acid and glycerin, wrapped in extraordinarily elegant fruit.

A delightfully original cuvee of Symphony, an American hybrid of Grenache Gris, Muscat Alexandria and Chenin Blanc, one of the bright stars of the Loire Valley, is available in both sweet and dry versions. As a dry wine with its brilliantly clean flavors of Seckel pear, quince and apples, it makes a perfect accompaniment to oysters or cioppino. Our sweet version is perfect for a hot summer day with floral aromatics and hints of sweet tea...a true porch pounder!

This clean and classic Chardonnay soars like a bird on the wing. Aromas of home-baked pies and lemon develop into a palate of Chardonnay fruit balanced by bright acidity and a lingering toasted mineralic finish.

This enigmatic white blend tickles the senses. Golden yellow in color, the wine possesses a layered bouquet and stands out for its complexity and concentration combined with a soft elegance and mineralic structure. A wine built to entice both the dry and sweet lover, you never know if it is pure lush fruit or a touch of residual sugar that keeps your taste buds dancing.

Our Tempranillo Rosé is made in the Old World style, pale and brilliantly clear in color, presenting a medium-bodied delightfully spicy wine, redolent of candied fruit, with a clean, lasting finish.

Our peach-colored and candied edition of the estate Viognier carries you away on wings of beautiful fruit and sinful sweetness. A perfect way to end a day...or start one

This historic hay barn—now our wine production building—has been restored and retrofitted with solar panels and geothermal heating and cooling. With its beautiful and open interior, The BarnHaus is not only a modern winemaking facility but also a special event space perfect for weddings and memorable events. The East Crush pad—dappled with sunlight and shade created by frameless, glass-encased Lumos solar panels, and flanked by a large lawn—is the perfect location for wedding ceremonies, receptions and social gatherings. A private bridal room with vanity, mirrors, dressing screens and Wi-Fi service next to a large women’s powder room provides the perfect pre-event space for the bride-to-be and her bridal party. The central alley of The BarnHaus, framed by original tall timber beams and stainless steel wine tanks, can be outfitted with long harvest tables and rustic elegant décor to provide an intimate and climate-controlled setting. Large sliding clear corrugated doors can be closed to create a more intimate space for smaller events. The adjoining lawn will accommodate a large tent.

Built in 1904 by Werner Endres, this three-story residence was moved to 4R Ranch from the property of Bishop Augustine Wenzelaus Dangelmayr, the first native Texan to be appointed a bishop to serve his native diocese. Bishop Dangelmayr founded several Catholic schools in Dallas, including St. Monica, Christ the King and Saint Rita, the school that members of the Roper family presently attend. This wooden home is an excellent example of turn of the century vernacular architecture found on the Texas prairie. Surrounded by Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards, the house serves as a private residence for the Roper family and as an outdoor wedding ceremony and event site.

To the south of the Endres/Dangelmayr House, overlooking a pond and flanked by Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards, sits the Cleo House. This house gets its name from Dr. Walter Cleo “W.C.” Roper, a dentist from Waco, Texas. W.C. purchased the 4R Ranch in 1992 with his wife Suzanne and two sons, Walt and Chris, the owners of 4R Ranch Vineyards & Winery. Today the Cleo House serves as a private residence for the Roper family and is available as an outdoor wedding ceremony and event site.

At the entrance to 4R Ranch is a small house perfect for weekend rentals and families of brides and grooms marrying on the property. The three-bedroom, two-bath home features a full kitchen and living room with television, phone and Wi-Fi. An outdoor sitting area and herb garden are perfect for taking in the beautiful views of the vineyards and Camp Creek or relaxing after Germanfest or Oktoberfest in Muenster. The house also has a laundry room with a full-size washer and dryer.

The Wind Shed offers two locations for events, wedding ceremonies and receptions. The 50-foot cantilevered deck offers panoramic views of the valley below.

Built to accommodate larger events and both sit-down or buffet-style dinners and brunches, this elegant restored and retrofitted barn allows you to create the memorable wedding experience or the country hoedown you’ve always wanted. A long alley provides the perfect space for farm tables in a variety of layouts accommodating as many as 200 guests. Large sliding panels allow for a divided cocktail reception area. A large crush pad at the east of the barn allows for extra seating, entertainment options, and portable catering kitchens. A unique bridal room for the bride-to-be and her wedding party is housed in the facility, along with two full-sized restrooms and lockers to safely store valuables during a party. The bridal room has a vanity table with a cell phone charging station, and Wi-Fi is available. The adjoining lawn will accommodate a large tent. Additional parking for all facilities is available here. This facility is available year-round.

If it’s a vineyard feeling you’re going for, then The Endres/Dangelmayr House Lawn and Porch is the ideal location. Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards surround this historic three-story residence, built in 1904 by Werner Endres and later moved to the 4R Ranch from the Bishop Augustine Wenzelaus Dangelmayr property. Your guests can mingle amongst the grapevines in this romantic setting or enjoy the views of the Viognier hilltop vineyard from the sweeping front porch.

With its views of the pond and its sprawling front lawn, the Cleo House provides a beautiful natural surrounding with views of the Cabernet Sauvignon and Viognier vineyards. The pond banks, manicured lawn or the covered front porch are wonderful for ceremonies and receptions. This house gets its name from Dr. Walter Cleo “W.C.” Roper, a dentist from Waco, Texas, who purchased the 4R Ranch in 1992 with his wife Suzanne and two sons, Walt and Chris, the owners of 4R Ranch Vineyards & Winery.

At the entrance to 4R Ranch is a small house for weekend rentals and families of event hosts or brides and grooms marrying on the property. The three-bedroom two-bath home features a full kitchen, dining area and living room with television, phone and Wi-Fi service.
